Overview

The Iranian Plateau is a large geographic region in West Asia centered on Iran and extending into neighboring countries. Its highlands and basins shape much of the physical geography of Iranian Kurdistan and adjacent Kurdish areas.

The plateau is bounded by major mountain systems, including the Zagros, which forms the western edge of the region.

Landscape and Culture

Elevated plains, interior basins, and mountain rims define the plateau’s structure. These features influence climate, agriculture, and settlement patterns across Kurdish regions of the Zagros.

Notes

The Iranian Plateau links the Anatolian highlands to Central and South Asia.
