Overview
The Bradost Mountains rise above the Rawanduz River in northeastern Iraqi Kurdistan. The range extends roughly 25 miles and reaches elevations above 5,000 feet, forming a rugged barrier north of the Soran area.
Bradost is closely linked to the wider history of the Zagros, including nearby prehistoric sites such as Shanidar Cave that highlight the deep human past of the region.
Landscape and Culture
Steep valleys, wooded slopes, and high pastures characterize the range. Villages and seasonal camps rely on the mountain’s water and grazing routes, and the Bradost name appears in local narratives about the Rawanduz corridor.
